new carvings

New sweet bird carvings.  I used the carvings to press into clay and make trivets.  Such fun!!  The first few pictures show the carvings stamped onto paper.

 The carvings were then pressed into clay.

 Black underglaze was then applied to the entire tile.  The border was sgraffitoed and then the birds were rubbed with steel wool to take the underglaze off the high points.  all of this is done while the clay is leather hard.

 A layer of Pure Brilliance was applied to thee tile and then it was fired.  Voila!!
