Getting Plastered......
During the semester break I have been playing with foam and plaster.
First I start with a piece of foam. This is the foam they have at the craft store for silk flowers. It isn't the foam that you soak in water for fresh flowers. I cut it into the form that I want.
After it has been cut into the form I cover it all with plaster cloth.
After the plaster cloth I cover it with plaster of paris. I used a palette knife to get the texture in the photo below.
I painted them with Raw Umber, Acra Gold, Yellow Oxide and Payne's Gray acrylic Liquitex paint. Putting on a layer, wiping off, another layer, wiping off. I have found that the blue shop cloths have been very useful for wiping the paint off.
Jerry made me a bakers dozen polymere clay crows to sit inside the forms.
And one to sit on top! The one above is going to a very special person for his birthday!
The piece below was created by using the spray foam that expands for the head. I sprayed it onto the board and when dry carved it into the shape that I wanted.
Added a beak using wire and the horns are made with newspaper. Everything was then wrapped with plaster cloth and then plaster of paris.
I used the same combination of paint on this piece as I did on the niches. I'm still sitting on this one for a name.......
