Three fiber projects - finished

There is a call for artists for the Art Center in San Luis Obispo and these are my three submissions for jury consideration. The first one is Swinging. It is a wire base heart, wrapped with batting and then plaster cloth. Once dried it was wrapped with fabric and fibers. Sitting on the swing inside the heart is a wire based doll, wrapped with batting and plaster cloth. She is dressed in both hand dyed and commercial cloth. Her swing is wire base with commercial and hand made fabric beads. This piece measures 15 x 28.

The next piece is Laundry Day. The sky is hand dyed muslin and the clothing is cut out and appliqued onto the background. It is hung on a rod that is wrapped with cloth and has wooden painted and embellished end caps. The fibers/fabric hanging from the ends have funky hand make cloth beads on them.

The third piece is Friends. The background is hand dyed muslin using the salt technique to get that wonderful moddled effect. The women were then cut out from another piece of plain muslin and appliqued onto the painted muslin. The clothing was then cut out from commercial fabric and appliqued onto the women. The hair is hand embroidered as are all the embellishments around the outer part of the piece. It hangs on a rod wrapped with commercial cloth and the hanger is braided cloth and fiber.

I have my fingers crossed that the judge likes my pieces and will consider them for entry into the show. This show is open to all California residents and only has one judge. If nothing else I have three new pieces for our home!
