I made brushes!!!
It was an honor to be in Glenn Grishkoff''s brush making workshop last Friday at Hancock college for our Tool Making class. What an amazing and gifted man he is. So very generous with his knowledge and supplies. I learned so much from him that day and went home full of ideas of how I could make brushes. I spent the weekend and yesterday putting the finishing touches on them. I had no idea how much I would love making a brush....this is a very addictive process!
16 brushes so far and I still have more to make~
I died bamboo with alcohol ink, stamped it and used it as the handle for the brush.
Waxed linen thread is wrapped at the top and a loop for hanging is made from hemp. There is a clear flat marble at the very top
Fox tail.....so very very soft. The bamboo was stamped and died.
The top was wrapped with leather with a braided loop of hemp added to the top for hanging.
Stamped bamboo
Fox tail!
Black bamboo, stamped with feathers added to paint with.
Dyed deer tail with piggy back bamboo, stamped and wrapped with waxed linen thread.
dyed deer tail
At the very top is a spark plug with braided hemp for a hanger.
Bamboo with fiber and a light bulb at the very top.
The light bulb (it was a bright idea) and feathers at the top
Dyed bamboo with a spark plug at the top and braided waxed linen for hanging.
The body of the bamboo was stamped and drawn on.
Older car spark plug at the very top.
The hair in this one is human. When Kyle was in high school he grew his hair out and just before he shaved his head he let me dye it red. I saved some of the hair when he shaved. Glad I did....now I have a paint brush of his hair.
Stamped and dyed bamboo.
Bamboo handle that has been stamped. Deer tail hair.
Horse hair tail - Thank you Pat Wagner for the hair! - Bamboo handle with an old car screw and washer at the top. Wrapped with waxed linen.
Fox tail hair on a yucca branch handle with a magnolia pod at the very top. Wrapped with fibers.
Fox tail on a yucca branch which has been wood burned.
Bamboo handle with feathers and fibers at the top.
tail feathers from a bird I found out in the field.
Bamboo handle wrapped with fibers and a magnolia pod at the very top.
Bamboo handle wrapped with waxed linen and feathers at both the top and bottom
I don't remember the name of this branch but I think it was from a cactus. There is broom straw at one end and a magnolia pod at the top with braided hemp for hanging.
I have no idea what this is but I really loved the feel of it and the fiberous head. I want to see what marks the fibers will make.
Very cool fiber head.
Rice plant material on bamboo with fabric, waxed linen and a eucalyptus pod at the top.
