end of summer windfall

Our garden is overwhelmed with tomatoes right now. I have canned 15 pints of salsa and made every tomato recipe I can get my hands on and still we have more tomatoes than we can use. But I will not complain as these are the best tomatoes ever. Expecially when you go out into the garden and pick one and it is still warm from the sun and you bit into it and it is so sweet and juicy.

Icky, Pewey, sick

That is exactly how I have been feeling for the past three days. Fever & horrible pain in my left back side that comes and goes. I just figured it was the flu or something like that so I would wait it out. It wasn't going away....it was getting worse. Jerry knows how much I HATE going to the doctor but he stayed home from work today to take care of me and made me call the doctor. I figured that I would just call and tell his assistant what is going on and she would tell me to drink plenty of fluids, rest, yadda, yadda, yadda. What she did do was set up an appointment for me to see the doctor this afternoon. Shit, this really wasnt' waht I wanted to do. I was doing so well sitting on the couch and drinking lots of water. BUT before he sees me he wants me to go lickety split to the lab to have blood drawn. Quickly we brush teeth and put on real clothes and run down to the horrid lab. Its not that the people there are horrid, they are very nice, it is the fact that there are people there and you are told to sign in and take a seat. They don't ask for your papers or anything. They have no idea why you are there....other than have blood done. The doctor had faxed my order over and put STAT on it. I nicely asked the 12 year old on the other side of the counter if she could check and make sure that the fax did indeed arrive and that she noted that it was STAT. She, thank the goddess, found it. Now you get a number. You arn't called by your name, oh no, you are a number. Thankfully the tech was very good and got me on the first try. BElieve me this is important. They once stuck me 15 times when trying to put in an IV before a surgery. That was not a pretty episode. Back home to wait for the dr. appt. He confirms that, yes, I am running a fever. I don't need a degree to tell me this. He cannot find out why I am having the pain tho. Urine test then shows blood and white blood cells in it. Now how in the hell did that get there. What was really funny tho was when the dr. asked if I thought I could give a urine sample. Jerry just started laughing out loud. Are you kidding me? This is what I do best. The labs showed my white count as normal so I don't have an infection somewhere. He decides that I need a back Xray. Now, my back doesn't hurt. My back is just fine. It is my lower left flank that hurts. So off we go to the horrid hospital where I was with both my mom and dad numerous times, and we come in through the emergency entrance because that is the only place with parking and it brought back all sorts of horrible memories......the bathroom where I had a nervous breakdown one time when my mother was brought into emergency...things like that. Thankfully there weren't too many people there and I was taken back to the Xray room quickly, put in the little cloth gown and ushered onto the table. A very young tech - a little older than 12 - was to do my xrays but she was training a young man and would I mind if she walked him through all of this along with her. Fine. Just do it. They position you, tell you to hold your breath and off they run to the "other room" where they won't get hit by all the rays coming out of this machine. Breath, and turn this way. We did this about 12 times. I should probably glow in the dark tonight. So I go back to see the dr. tomorrow morning for the results of the xray. Such a waste of my time.

front porch posts

The front porch posts have been mosaiced. Broken plates, bowls and cups cover the posts now. I ended up with raw fingers by the time I was done grouting but it was worth it when it was done.
