Laundry Day Finished!!!

I finally finished Laundry Day!! It felt so good when I added the last little touches to it and then hung it. Below are some closeups of it so you can see all the little details. Enjoy!

The things you find in the Nordstroms Bathroom

and on the streets of santa barbara. A couple of friends and I took a day trip on Saturday to celebrate one of their birthdays. Our first stop was at the Creation Station in Buellton. If you havn't been to this store it is a must. And even if you don't have to go to the bathroom you HAVE to go into the bathroom. The entire store is like a creative explosion.

After that we drove to Carpenteria where we went to the Treasure Hunt which is a quilt store but has a whole lot more than just fabric. http://www.carpinteriaquilts.com/ It too is a must.
AFter we left the Treasure Hunt I nearly wrecked the car because just down the street from the Treasure Hunt was this house. Thankfully there was a parking place right across the street from the house and we all baled out and many photos. Fabulous house. If you look closely in the windows there is a dragon holding a crystal ball, John Wayne is on the roof along with a huge gargoyle, and one window is filled with owls. I would have loved to have gone inside.

On our way home we stopped at Santa Barbara for potty stop, people watch and browse. Santa Barbara is an amazing city. Architechturally (is that a word?) it is beautiful. And people come from all over the world to go there so the people watching is supreme. If you stand against a building and close your eyes and just listen you hear so many different languages passing you. So our first stop was the Nordstrom's bathroom which is where I found these hanging on the walls.....

Imagine finding assemblage art, and very cool assemblage art at that, in the Nordstrom's bathroom. If you look closely you will see that the "hair" is a bunch of smashed bottle caps and some metal meshy stuff. The nose is a nail and the bottom lip of one of them is half of a can lid. Then there were these two paintings that I really enjoyed. There is no telling where you will find something that sparks your creative soul.....even in the Nordstrom's bathroom.
We walked down State Street a bit and came upon a crowd of people. You know that I have to go and see what they are all looking at and here it was:

The three of us stared at the three animals there, wondering if they were drugged because there is no way that any of my cats or my dog would lie there like that with all these people around them. Now if these animals can get along like this why can't humans?
The birthday trip made for a very fun day and I got to come home to Jerry making beef and broccoli for dinner. Man, was that good.

Laundry Day Art Quilt

This is work in progress of my newest art quilt "Laundry Day". The picture below shows it without the hanging part. a rod will go through the loops on the top with fibers handing down at the ends. You will note a embroidery thread hanging down from the bottom, that is because I am still chain stitching the bottom part. A lot more hand stitching will go onto this before it gets adhered to the back. The sky was hand dyed. just thought i would share while it was still in progress. Stay tuned for a completed photo. This piece will go in for jury to the Art Center in San Luis Obispo for their Fiber Exhibit.

Man Cave

The "man cave" is finished. Futon, tv stand, huge ass tv, one sheets from the theater that Jerry's father used to manage. Love the color and the energy in the room. Kyle is going to be shocked when he comes home for his leave and sees his old room changed. Viva la man cave.

Picture This Gallery!!

My Frida Kahlo shrine was accepted at the annual Frida Kahlo exhibit at Picture This Gallery in Long Beach. The artist reception was on Saturday night and Jerry and I went down for it. What a fun collection of Frida art. There was everything there from mixed media, painting and art dolls. We had a fun time at the gallery and went down a couple of doors for dinner at an italian restaurant. Best italian food we have ever had. Here are a few pictures.
